In many religious traditions, Hell is a place of suffering and punishment in the afterlife, often in the underworld.

“Hell is a place, a time, a consciousness,
in which there is no love.”
Richard Bach

Living Hell

Pouring raindrops streak my face
As I trudge a God-forsaken place…
No direction, I wander alone
Leaving behind a so-called home…
Each moment quickly overlaps
Time trickles through my weary grasp…
Anger whips my burdened soul
Hurt…the greatest pain I’ve known…
Every dash of hope long since gone
With my head hung low I stumble on…
Screams stuffed silent, rage in my ears
Filling my eyes with hell-bent tears…
My shadow on a sidewalk crawls
Upon bruised knees I hopelessly fall…
I hold my face within tired hands
I wonder who, if anyone, understands…
I close my eyes to finally rest
Death seems a freedom from this mess…
I awake, oh God, burning from the sun
As yet another day in Hell’s begun!

my private hell

Welcome to my private hell,
where goblins lurk and demons dwell;
I keep them in this special place
so my outer world they won’t deface
and create a land of horrors.

Welcome to my private hell,
where I rule and rule so well;
Here I can become anything I desire,
and here I can dance amongst the fires
that burn behind closed doors.

Welcome to my private hell,
my secrets are here in a dell;
My goblins dance and my demons sing,
and my little voices enjoy the thing,
and will always ask for more.

So join me in my private hell,
where my goblins lurk and my demons dwell;
Come dance among the brightest flames;
come as close as you wish, for they never maim,
and revel in my land of horrors.

The Clod and The Pebble

Love seeketh not itself to please,
Nor for itself hath any care,
But for another gives its ease,
And builds a heaven in hell's despair.'

So sung a little clod of clay,
Trodden with the cattle's feet,
But a pebble of the brook
Warbled out these metres meet:

'Love seeketh only Self to please,
To bind another to its delight,
Joys in another's loss of ease,
And builds a hell in heaven's despite.'

William Blake
